Troubleshooting Genie Garage Door Openers
Genie garage door openers are one of the most reliable and safe garage door openers in the market today. Though Genie’s products are known for their quality and performance, it is in your best interest to know how to troubleshoot some common problems. A few of them are mentioned below.
The garage door opener reverses/opens when you try to close it
The most common causes for this problem are obstructions in the garage door’s path. See if there are any obstructions in the path. If the problem persists even then, check the red LED Safe–T–Beam indicator to find out if it is blinking. Make sure the lenses on either sides of the garage door opener are mounted at least 6 inches from the floor. If they are already mounted in the said position, check the owner’s manual (the trouble shooting section) for possible causes and solutions.
The opener is running but the door doesn’t move
See if the garage door is connected to the opener. Make sure that the emergency release cord is not pulled. If it is so, then the carriage may have to be reengaged. The model of your opener will determine how the carriage has to be reengaged. You can refer to the owner’s manual for more details.
The remote is not working
Make sure that there are fresh batteries in the remote and that the remote has been programmed properly. If the problem persists, refer to the owner’s manual. Alternatively, you can also contact Genie’s customer service department.
Safe-T-Beam functioning
It is a government–mandated safety feature without which the door opener will not work. If the light is flashing, it usually indicates a malfunction. If this happens, clean the lens first of all. The alignment of the lenses must be opposite to one another. Then check for loose wires and other obstructions. If the light still blinks, refer to the manual for additional troubleshooting solutions.
In case of power outrage, the garage door can be moved
You can easily move the garage door during a power outrage. You can do this by pulling on the emergency cord attached to the overhead opener. This will allow manual operation of the door. But you have to be inside the garage to do this. If you want to do it from outside, then you should install a Genie Emergency Release Lock. You should also use the door handle when you are operating the door. For more information on Garage Door Remotes, click the link.
